Spend the Day by the Water

This national holiday is the perfect time to get outside. Thanksgiving is synonymous with food and practically a feasting ritual. Some of Key West’s best restaurants are putting on a traditional Thanksgiving Day multi-course feast. Visit Hard Rock Café for a meal of turkey and all the traditional holiday accompaniments like roasted vegetables, sweet potato mash, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Run the Hog Trot at Hog’s Breath Saloon

In true Turkey Trot fashion, Hog’s Breath Saloon will present their 28th Annual 5K Hog Trot on Saturday, Nov. 26 in front of the saloon at 400 Front St. Registration to the early morning footrace includes an official T-shirt (for the first 300 participants), free beer for those 21+, and a post-race awards ceremony beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Hit up Key West’s hottest clubs in the hours before Black Friday. Aquaplex, “Key West’s only theme park for adults”, has a host of events taking place on Thanksgiving Day. Beginning with Happy Hour at noon at Aqua and Sidebar, see drag shows at Aqua at 7 p.m. followed by a 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. party at Club 504 featuring Bass with Nastico playing hip hop, house, and bass music. These late night dance parties are perfect for a ‘Friendsgiving’ or couple’s night out. Other late night options include Virgilio’s and 801 Bourbon Bar.

Mangoes is putting on a Thanksgiving Weekend edition of their famous Drunken Drag Brunch on Sunday, Nov. 27 with a portion of proceeds going to the Sister Season Fund. Come dressed up as “whatever you want” and enjoy á la carte brunch menu items like spicy chicken and waffles, Cuban french toast, and mango cheesecake, bottomless mimosas, prizes, a live DJ, and a fabulous Drag Queen show.

For something quieter, visit the Key West Theater on Saturday, Nov. 26 to see Peter Mayer’s Stars & Promises Christmas Tour. The musician is the lead guitarist in Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band and has shared the stage with James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Don Henley and others.

Watch Football at Key West’s Best Sports Bars

Gather your crew and visit sports bars around the island to catch some Thanksgiving Day football on the big-screen. Sandbar Sports Grill, Shooterz Lounge and Sports Bar, Dons’ Place, Jack Flats, and Old Town Tavern & Beer Garden are all excellent options. Best to call ahead to confirm they have their doors open on the big day!
