Finding Wellness in Paradise

The southernmost island of the Florida Keys moves at its own pace. Key West is a carefree getaway at mile zero, complete with generous views of the sea, a mellow evening breeze, and celebrated sunsets. Here are suggestions of how to tap into the island’s peaceful side.

Spend time at the beach

Clear your mind with time at the beach, where you can leave the phone behind and soak in the sun. Pick a spot in the sand on Smathers Beach and take in awesome views of the sea.

Snorkel

Snorkeling is a popular pastime on the island, and it’s an easy way to observe your surroundings. At Smathers Beach, you can rent snorkel gear from Sunset Watersports on the beach to explore a quiet, underwater world. Fort Zachary Taylor is another favored snorkeling spot that’s located on the west end of the island. For a day trip away from it all, read all about Dry Tortugas National Park.

Kayak

Enjoy the calming effect of kayaking through the mangroves. Set off in a kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore the quiet mangrove forests, where you can spot abundant wildlife.

Yoga on the Sunset Green

Go for a late-morning yoga session on the Sunset Green at 24 North Hotel every Saturday and Sunday at 10am. The practice is free for hotel guests and mats are included. This is an ideal way to start the day off on the right foot.

Cruise the island by bike

Key West’s relatively small size makes it accessible by bike, which is a good outlet for burning off energy. Go for a spin around neighborhoods in Old Town where you’ll find brightly-painted Conch-style homes, lush plant life and streets roaming with free-range chickens and roosters.

Massage therapy

Set an appointment for time at the spa or that massage you’ve been needing.
Prana Spa offers different aroma therapies, massages and body polish services. Prana Spa is located at 625 Whitehead St. in Old Town, just a few blocks from the Hemingway House.
The Ocean Wellness Spa & Salon has a wide range of services from their team, including acupuncture, facials, massage, nail care and hair styling. The spa ranks favorably on Trip Advisor. A mani-pedi and massage will leave you feeling light and fresh for the rest of your stay in Key West.
